Date: Thursday 26 September 2013
Time: 5:45 pm
Venue: South Courtyard Cafe, LSHTM, Keppel Street, London, WC1E 7HT, UK
Type of event: Book Launch
Speaker(s): Dr Val Curtis
Join Dr Val Curtis at an evening reception to explore the vital role that disgust plays in disease prevention around the world.
Our reactions to things that disgust us influence our eating habits, our relationships and even our moral judgement. But how and why did such a powerful response evolve and why do people in widely differing cultures all exhibit disgust at the same things?
In her new book, 'Don't look, don't touch: the science behind revulsion', Dr Curtis argues that harnessing the disgust response can help to ensure the success of hygiene and health care programmes worldwide.
At this event, Val will argue why it is so important to understand disgust, and you will also have the opportunity to challenge your own revulsion tolerance levels through some interactive demonstrations, and to help us measure your feelings around disgust via our very own London disgust survey!
