Library Systems Replacement 2017
The Library and Archives Service will be replacing our Library Management System over the Easter break - our new system should allow us to be more efficient and improve our management of eresources. The changes will affect existing systems, which are detailed below. If you have any other questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Borrowing and renewing Library books
From 24th March, all One Week and Two Week loans will be extended until 28th April. Please take out any books that you will need by the end of term.
Loans and renewals after the upgrade
After the upgrade, you will be able to borrow up to 15 books and unless an item has been requested by another user, it will automatically renew. You'll receive an email to let you know if a book you have borrowed has been requested, and you will still be able to log into your account to check when your books are due back.
Placing a hold request
If a book that you need is on loan, please be aware that hold requests which have not been returned to the Library by 31st March will not be transferred to the new system and may need to be placed again - if you would like a list of items that you have requested, please speak to the Library Enquiries Desk.
Access to e-resources
Discover: You will still be able to access electronic journal articles through Discover. As part of the upgrade, Discover will also look a little different, but we will keep you updated as and when this changes.
Using Databases: You will still be able to access databases from the Databases A-Z page on the Library website. Full text linking will also be updated as part of the systems replacement, and we will keep you informed as this changes, and any alternative routes to access.
If you have any issues accessing electronic journal articles via Discover or a database, you can Google the title of the article and log into the subscription website directly. For more information, follow the instructions after minute 7 of this video.
Interlibrary loans: The interlibrary loans service will be affected by the systems replacement, please submit all interlibrary loan requests by 31st March. If you urgently need an item after this date, you may need to visit another library to access it, and you can check the status of a request by contacting email@example.com
Archives: You will still be able to search the Archives catalogue and Discover during the systems replacement, and to make an appointment to view any items in the Archives, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
We will be unable to process applications for membership between 31st March-24th April. If you are a Distance Learning student or a visitor to LSHTM and would like to register to borrow print items from the Library, please make your application by the 31st March to allow for time to process. You are still able to visit the Library as a Walk-In visitor during this time, but this will not allow you to borrow print items from the Library.
Processing of new orders will be paused from 1st April - 30th April inclusive. If you are a Module Organiser please submit all ORC lists to the email@example.com email address in advance of the 10th March deadline, in order to ensure that all orders are placed and books can be processed in time for the start of E1 modules.
If you would like to request a book, please be aware of the pause in book ordering. You may wish to visit another library to access the book you require, or request an inter-library loan.
