All distance learning students have full access to LSHTM Library resources. This page highlights some of the information about Library services of most relevance to distance learners.
Further help is available:
To access our services remotely you do not have to register. All you need is the username and password you have been sent by the University of London to access Moodle and the student portal. If you have not received this log-in information, or if it does not work, please report this to the University of London using their web-form. To access physical resources, or order an inter library loan, you will need to register.
Accessing electronic resources
You can find and access our e-books and e-journals using our search tool, Discover. Search for the journal title or book title to see if we have an electronic subscription. You will be prompted for your Moodle username and password before you are taken to the full text.
We have also produced guides and videos on accessing electronic resources from computers not in School.

Visiting the Library in person
If you will be visiting London, you are very welcome to use the Library in person. Please note our opening hours - if you do not have a Library card, you will only be allowed access during visitor's hours. You are welcome to sign-in as a visitor to use our printed collections for reference purposes.
If you would like to borrow books, use a Library laptop, or make user of the Reference and Overnight Loan collections you must apply for a Library card.
Using IT in the Library
All DL students can connect to the eduroam wireless network whenever they are in the School. You do not have to register/request in advance. The first time you connect to eduroam you will be asked to enter a username and password. This is the same log-in information that DL students have been issued to access Moodle. The username should be suffixed with @lshtm.ac.uk - eg email@example.com. The IT Helpdesk can help you if you have problems.
DL students with library membership are able to borrow a laptop from the Library Enquiries Desk for use in the library. This will provide access to the Internet and to software such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Please note, documents cannot be saved to the laptop, please save any documents to USB or personal online storage.
University of London Online Library
Distance Learning students also have access to the University of London Online Library. Please note that this resource is separate to the LSHTM Library and you will need an Athens username and password to access it.
If you have any questions about UoL Online Library resources please contact UoL staff directly.

LSHTM has produced an Academic writing handbook (PDF) which provides detailed instructions on how to write your assignments. Note that some modules require an alternative format, details will be included in your module handbook.
