Wireless Network

The Wireless service eduroam is available to students & staff with their own laptops/mobiles throughout the School. In using the wireless network you agree to abide by Regulations for Use of Networked Computing Services (intranet)

The wireless network will give you access to the Internet and Internet based network services (e.g.Webmail, Blackboard, web based library databases and catalogues). You will also be able to access your datastore and other resources via Remote Desktop.

The School uses 802.1x (WPA2/AES) with the SSID eduroam, which is a standards based authentication method providing secure access to the wireless network. This is also the JANET(UK) recommended authentication solution for the JANET Roaming Service (eduroam)  which provides network access for staff and students visiting other organisations such as Birkbeck, SOAS & UCL.

Note: You must have already logged onto the network in a computer classroom and changed your password before you can access the wireless network.

To automatically configure your Windows (XP SP3, Vista, Windows 7) machine to connect to eduroam from within the School, you can connect your device to the lshtm-setup wireless network (see wireless setup pages for more details).

Server Certificates

If you're having problems with certificates or cannot get your device working - You may need to download and install the certificates below to your device.

You should only really need to import the "AddTrust External CA Root" certificate into your device. If it doesn't work you can try importing all 3 certificates. Each is available in two formats: Base64 or DER. Most systems will work with either format, however for Nokia/Symbian phones you should use DER.

  1. AddTrust External CA Root Base64 or DER
  2. Terena CA Base64 or DER
  3. UTN AddTrust Server CA Base64 or DER

A bundle of all three certificates in Base64 format is also available
