Research on Trypanosomatids

Trypanosomatids are protozoa responsible for a variety of human diseases, including Chagas' disease (caused by Trypanosoma cruzi), leishmaniasis (caused by several species of the genus Leishmania), and African sleeping sickness (caused by Trypanosoma brucei).

Three PMBU labs are focusing on this parasite:

Laboratory of Professor Michael Miles:

Molecular genetics of Trypanosoma cruzi, and the epidemiology and control of Chagas disease

Molecular genetics of Leishmania, and the epidemiology and control of leishmaniasis

Ecology, population genetics and control of triatomine bugs

Ecology and control of tsetse flies (Glossina)
