Tropical Epidemiology Group

The Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) is located within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. The Group comprises statisticians and epidemiologists who conduct research on the public health problems of developing countries. Established in 1973, the Group is supported by the Medical Research Council (MRC), the Wellcome Trust and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation among others.

The overall aim of the Group is to contribute to improvements in the public health of developing countries through epidemiological research aimed at identifying effective interventions. Specifically, it seeks to:

  •   identify needs and opportunities for epidemiological research on the major health issues affecting developing countries and initiate research in these areas
  •   collaborate with other groups and individuals undertaking epidemiological research in such areas and work with them on study design and statistical analysis
  •   develop, adapt and promote statistical and epidemiological methods relevant and applicable to research on the health problems of developing countries
  •   support learning and development in partner organisations through training and mentoring in statistical and epidemiological methods
