How to set up an Alumni Chapter
Alumni Chapters and Networks
The Alumni Relations Office establishes Alumni Chapters throughout the world. Alumni Chapters are made up of volunteers who are members of the alumni association. Our network of Alumni Chapters provides graduates with opportunities to network, socialise, assist their local communities, and recruit top students to LSHTM.
Alumni Chapters assist our alumni community to advance the School’s mission to contribute to the improvement of health worldwide through the pursuit of excellence in research, postgraduate teaching and advanced training in national and international public health and tropical medicine, and through informing policy and practice in these areas.
What are Alumni Chapters?
Interested alumni can volunteer to join the executive committee of a Chapter. Chapters are established if there is sufficient interest and alumni numbers to make it a success.
Alumni groups can define themselves in terms of their geographic location. Chapters could be established in cities, regions or countries with high concentrations of LSHTM graduates. This way the alumni living in these areas could build and maintain strong networks with the School and each other. Information about how many alumni live in each country is available on our homepage.
Alumni Chapters can also define themselves in terms of their degree subject, their year of graduation or their area of employment (e.g. alumni working in the NHS or MSc Community Eye Health alumni).
What would Chapters do?
Alumni Chapters are involved in a variety of activities. Through these activities Chapters would play a crucial role in extending and strengthening our alumni community.
Events
While the Alumni Office cannot host regular events and alumni reunions in every country in the world, we would like to offer all of our alumni the opportunity to meet old classmates and make new contacts through our graduate base.
Part of the function of an Alumni Chapter is to organise social, academic and professional networking events in their local areas. These events ensure that our graduates can stay connected with the School and with each other. LSHTM staff who travel to the Chapter’s region would also be able to participate with the Chapter’s activities.
Ambassadors
The Chapters will act as Ambassadors for LSHTM. They can provide advice to prospective students interested in embarking on a course of study at LSHTM. Chapters can assist staff at Student Recruitment events. Through sharing their own experiences they can provide their unique prospective on LSHTM life, whether students are interested in coming to London to study or studying with the School by distance learning.
Careers
Chapters can offer informal career advice. The LSHTM Careers Service may contact the Chapters to profile alumni for career testimonials. The Careers Service could use alumni connections to liaise with employers interesting in promoting their jobs to LSHTM graduates.
