Professor John Whittaker

Professor of Genetic Epidemiology and Statistics

My training is in statistics, and I have worked mainly on statistical problems in medicine and biology, particularly genetics.

I joined the School in April 2005, having worked previously at Imperial College London and the University of Reading. Since April 2009 I have mainly worked at GlaxoSmithKline, initially as Director, Statistical Genetics, now as Vice President, Statistical Platforms and Technologies but retain a 10% appointment at the School.

Research

My research interests are in the application of statistics in biology and medicine, particularly human, population and quantitative genetics. In particular I have published widely on the design and analysis of genetic association studies, both population and family based. This research has been a mixture of methodological development and applied data analytic work in collaboration with data generators.
