Sotiris Vardoulakis BSc MSc PhD

Honorary Senior Lecturer

I am a Specialist Environmental Scientist at the Centre for Radiation, Chemical & Environmental Hazards of the Health Protection Agency. I hold honorary academic affiliations with LSHTM and the University of Birmingham, and I am a Fellow of the Institution of Environmental Sciences, the Institute of Air Quality Management and the Higher Education Academy. 

After reading Physics in the University of Athens, I gained an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, a PhD in Air Pollution from Greenwich University, and a PGCE in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Birmingham. I worked as Lecturer in Environmental Exposure Assessment for Epidemiology and Risk Assessment at LSHTM from 2006 to 2010. Previously I worked at the University of Birmingham, University of Aveiro (Portugal), Sussex Air Quality Steering Group, and INERIS institute (France).

I lecture in the Environmental Health Policy module (MSc Public Health, Department of Social and Environmental Health Research, LSHTM) and in other University courses.

Research

My main research interests include air pollution, climate change, environmental health policy, exposure assessment, risk assessment, health impact analysis, air quality management, dispersion modelling, environmental impact assessment, and urban climatology.

I have participated in several national and international research projects, including the UK Climate Change Risk Assessment (DEFRA), PURE-INTRAWISE (EPSRC), PURE (EPSRC), INTARESE (EU, FP6), MATCH (US HEI), and ATREUS (EU, FP5).
