Cathryn Tonne MPH ScD

Lecturer in Environmental Epidemiology

After completing my doctoral training in epidemiology and environmental health at the Harvard School of Public Health in 2006, I came to the UK on a post-doctoral fellowship from the US NIH to study the air pollution related health effects of the London Congestion Charge. Prior to my doctoral program, I received a Master of Public Health, with a focus on environmental health, from Columbia University, and a BS in chemistry from UC Berkeley. I joined LSHTM in 2009 and am currently an ESRC early career fellow in the Environment and Human Health program. I am also a member of the MRC-HPA Centre for Environment and Health.

Teaching

I am the module organizer for Environmental Epidemiology through the Distance Learning programme. I also lecture on the Environment, Health and Sustainable Development module and am a seminar leader for Basic Epidemiology.

Research

My primary research interest is in the health effects of air pollution. Currently, my research focuses on the application of toxicity based measures of exposure to particles in epidemiological studies as well as socioeconomic inequalities in exposure and susceptibility to air pollution.
