About Katie Steels

The School's Marketing & Communications Manager, responsible for strategic communications campaigns, partnerships and initiatives.


Senior member of the communications team working on strategy, crisis and reputation management, media relations, media training, branding, internal communications, digital and social media. Responsible for communications on major research partnerships and initiatives, and the School's knowledge exchange and commercialisation company, Chariot Innovations.

I joined the School in 2012 with more than a decade of experience working with organisations such as London Health Programmes, Department for Work and Pensions, Sport England, and many NHS trusts and local authorities across England. I have managed numerous multi-award winning communications campaigns on issues including flu vaccination, sexual health, teenage pregnancy, climate change and air quality.

I have a BA in Journalism Studies and previously worked as a radio presenter and freelance journalist. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and am currently participating in the Aurora 2016-17 programme for women's leadership in higher education.




I give several lectures a year on communicating science and public health in the media for Master's and research degree students.
