Research

In 2006, Kristina was awarded a 3-year British Heart Foundation PhD Studentship to investigate differences in body composition between South Asian Indian and European infants in the UK. The London Mother and Baby Study will be the first study to examine if relative differences in adiposity or body composition between South Asians and Europeans are apparent in infancy. The adiposity of 6–8 week old infants will be determined using a three-component model of body composition which will use body volume measured with a recently developed air-plethysmography device (PeaPod) specifically designed for infants, total body water determined by deuterium dilution and body weight. London Mother and Baby Study is being conducted under the supervision of Professor David Leon in collaboration with Drs Jonathan Wells and Mary Fewtrell at the Institute of Child Health at Great Ormond Street.
