Dr Michael Pickles BA MA PhD

Mike Pickles has been a mathematical modeller in the HIVTools research group since 2006, working on evaluation of  the Avahan large-scale HIV intervention in India. Activities include impact projections compared to scenarios without intervention, cost-effectiveness, and long-term epidemic projections.

He is also a research associate in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Imperial College.

Teaching

Prior to starting work in infectious diseases, Mike spent 3 years as Resident Lecturer at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Muizenberg, South Africa, where he was responsible for setting up, developing and implementing a teaching philosophy and programme in postgraduate-level mathematics for students coming from across Africa. 

At LSHTM Mike teaches on the basic mathematics and mathematical modelling of infectious diseases courses.
