Research
Edith's research interests cover the economics of health care markets and evaluations of interventions for improving access and equity in access to quality health care services, notably in the field of malaria. She is also interested in evaluating methods for studying the supply-side of health care markets in low income settings, with a focus on private commercial providers. She is part of the ACTwatch study (www.ACTwatch.info) through which she conducted her PhD research on the extent and nature of competition in the market for malaria treatment in Cambodia and on the strengths and weaknesses of different empirical methods for studying health care markets in low and middle income countries. She is currently based in Tanzania working on evaluations of a pay for performance programme and a demand-side financing programme for improved access to quality maternal and child care services. She is also involved in the evaluation of a community health worker programme on diagnosis and treatment of malaria and other childhood illnesses in Cambodia.
