Maureen OLeary BSc MSc

Research Fellow / Trial Epidemiologist

I am currently based at the Kintampo Health Research Centre in Ghana where I am working as an epidemiologist for Neovita, a randomised control trial to investigate the impact of neonatal vitamin A supplementation on infant mortality and morbidity. I joined the school in June 2010 and prior to that I spent four years working at Health Protection Scotland, firstly as a fellow with the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) and then as an epidemiologist with the blood borne virus / sexually transmitted infections teams.

Affiliation

Teaching

I am a facilitator on the Developing Disease Control Programmes in Developing Countries module and on the Epidemiology and Control of Communicable Diseases module.

Research

As well as providing epidemiological support for Neovita, I am interested in the programmatic aspects of childhood immunisation in Ghana. Prior to joining LSHTM I conducted research into viral hepatitis among minority ethnic groups and children in Scotland, as part of the Scottish Government Hepatitis C Action Plan. I also provided epidemiological support for the introduction of the HPV vaccine into the national immunisation programme in Scotland.
