Thoai Ngo BSc MHS

Research Degree Student Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit

Thoai holds a Master in Health Science (MHS) from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) with a concentration in Global Disease Epidemiology & Control. He also obtained a Certificate in Health & Human Rights and a Certificate in Vaccine Science & Policy from JHSPH.

Prior to LSHTM, he was a research fellow at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Johns Hopkins University conducting HIV/STIs research in Uganda, Vietnam, China, and the USA among marginalised populations (sex workers, injection drug users, and women). He has also worked on policy research at Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) examining the intersection between public health and human rights, particularly the PEPFAR reauthorisation process and health workforce advocacy initiative.

He has been working on various sexual & reproductive health research programmes and projects with Marie Stopes International, the Guttmacher Institute and the World Health Organisation (WHO).  Thoai is at LSHTM under the Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar Award.

Thoai's current research interest is to examine the acceptability and feasibility of medical abortion service delivery in developing settings.   He is interested in understanding the barriers to medical abortion service through the provision of the procedure by mid-level providers and/or the option of home-use of misoprostol.
