Dr Debapriya Mondal MSc, PhD

Research Assistant

I have completed my PhD in Environmental Health Risk Assessment from the University of Manchester at the school of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences and presently working here at LSHTM as post doctoral research assistant on finding the health effects of perfluoralkyls in a population in Mid-Ohio river valley,USA. I have earlier done my masters in Chemistry and Environmental Management. My research interests are in the field of Environmental Health sciences and policy.

Affiliation

Teaching

Presently at LSHTM, I am the co-module organizer of the Environmental Health Policy module, for postgraduates. I am involved in the required preparation of the module (like organizing the seminars, preparing the assessment work etc), supervising the students and marking the course work. Earlier, I was involved in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students of Environmental Sciences at the University of Manchester.

Research

I have been investigating arsenic and water-borne pathogen induced Environmental health risk for water resources focused to drinking water contamination for anarsenic exposed population of India, developing probabilistic health risk assessment models to determine disease burden with targeted output for the policy makers and stakeholders along with academics. I have successfully drawn on work from different fields of environmental sciences, understanding the interaction of human and physical environment while experiencing the closer relations between science and practice. I have also worked on comparison of drinking water, raw rice and cooking of rice as exposure routes to contaminants in three contrasting areas of West Bengal, India. Presently as post doctoral researcher, I am working with the group on finding the health impacts of perfluroalkyl exposure in a population of Mid-Ohio valley, USA, with people exposed to high concentration of perflurooctanoic acid through contaminated drinking water, as a part of C8 Science Panel Study.
