I am an applied social scientist with particular expertise in qualitative methodology. I have an undergraduate degree in Human Sciences, an MSc in Health Promotion, and a PhD in Sexual Health. I first joined LSHTM as a MSc student in 1995, staying on as a Research Fellow for two years, and returning to the school in 2004 to undertake my PhD. Since 1998, I have lived and worked for significant periods in Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia. Previously I have held posts as an HIV Programme Co-ordinator for an international NGO in Uganda; as a Research Officer for MRC Programme on AIDS in Uganda; and as a Research and Evaluation Officer for the HIV/AIDS Alliance in Brighton, UK.

Teaching
I am mainly involved in the Distance Learning programme, as a tutor on the Principles of Social Research module. This year, I have been co-ordinating the development of an upcoming distance learning module in sexual health. I also undertake ad hoc lectures and student supervision in-house.
Research
I have a broad interest in the public health aspects of sexual health. My previous and current research foci include sexual dysfunction, young people and sexual health, strategies for the prevention of adverse sexual health outcomes, and evaluation of HIV/AIDS programmes. I am currently working on the UK National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles 2010 (NATSAL 2010). I'm also involved in capacity building work to support African researchers in qualitative research methods.
