Research
I successfully coordiated and completed the RITA trials (Randomised Intervention Treatment of Angina). These multi centre studies compared established treatments for patients with stable and unstable angina. Other work has included STEPS (Strategies for Trial Enrolment and Participation) which reviewed recruitment to Randomised Controlled Trials and OPAL (Older People and long chain polyunsturated fatty acids) which is looking at the role of fish oils in older people, txt2stop which is using mobile phone support as a method of helping people quit smoking through supportive text messages (results due end of 2010)
I am presently coordinating 2 trials looking at pre conditioning. REPAIR (Renal Protection Againist Ischaemia in Reperfusion) and ERICCA (Effect of Remote Ischaemic Preconditioning on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery). Recruitment for REPAIR commenced January 2010 and ERICCA due to start early 2011.
