Karina Kielmann PhD

Lecturer in Medical Anthropology

I am a Canadian medical anthropologist with a combined background in anthropology (M.A., McGill University) and public health (Ph.D. Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health).  I joined the Health Policy Unit at LSHTM in August 2001 and worked for three successive DfID-funded research programmes, the last of which was the Research Programme Consortium on HIV/AIDS Treatment and Care (Evidence for Action) that ran from 2006 to 2011.  I currently am employed as a Senior Lecturer in the Institute for International Health and Development, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, however retain some time at LSHTM working on projects related to HIV and TB care in South Africa and India.

Current research interests and projects include: 1) Ethical and social contexts of clinical care in low-resource settings 2) Managing co-infected HIV/TB patients in India, Zambia, and South Africa and 3) Community involvement in HIV treatment and care
