Seth Irish MSc

Research Degree Student

 Seth Irish graduated with a B.A. in French and Cross-Cultural Studies from Whitworth College; Spokane, Washington, USA.  After managing health services on fruit plantations in Cote d'Ivoire, he returned to the US and began work at Multnomah County Vector and Nuisance Control.  Seth earned an MSc in Biology and Control of Disease Vectors at LSHTM in 2006 and then worked in Benin on the evaluation of alternative insecticides for insecticide treated nets and indoor residual spraying.

 Seth is a graduate teaching assistant and helps out with practical sessions for the Medical Parasitology and Biology and Control of Disease Vectors.

Research

 Currently working on a PhD on the oviposition of Culex mosquitoes.  The goal of this project is to develop a standardized chemical lure for ovipositing Culex and to gain insight into other aspects of Culex oviposition behaviour as it relates to sampling.  Fieldwork for this project has begun at the Ifakara Health Institute, in Ifakara, Tanzania.
