Honorary Lecturer in Global Health

I first joined the School in January 2008 as Lecturer in Global Health. In October 2010, I moved to the University of York, where I am Senior Lecturer in International Social Policy. I continue to collaborate with colleagues at the School, where I now hold an Honorary Lectureship. Prior to joining the School, I was Lecturer in Social Policy at Brunel University for a number of years. I hold a BA (Hons) in Politics and Government, MA in Political Economy, and PhD on globalisation and corporate involvement in the UK social care market. I have been a member of the UK Social Policy Association Executive Committee since 2004, with responsibility for international liaison. I am also a member of the Journal of Social Policy’s Editorial Board and the International Advisory Board of the journal Global Social Policy.

Supervisor for PhDs on trade and health, and transnational tobacco companies.

Research

My research interests focus on the relationship between globalisation and health, particularly the impact of corporate behaviour on health and the involvement of for-profit corporations in the provision of health services. Specific interests include the influence of transnational tobacco and alcohol companies on public policy, and international trade in health services.
