Rachel Hallett BSc PhD

Lecturer

Graduated with a degree in Biology with Industrial Experience from University of Manchester and moved to London to work at the Health Protection Agency Centre for Infections, Colindale, in the Virus Reference Department. Registered on a part-time PhD with University College London (UCL) and completed a thesis on the molecular epidemiology of bloodborne hepatitis viruses in 2001. Joined the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at LSHTM in 2002 to work with Dr Colin Sutherland on a Gates Malaria Partnership project to examine the effects of combination therapy on post-treatment carriage and transmission of drug resistance genes in Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasites. Second post-doctoral position at UCL, working on a large clinical trial to measure the impact on mortality of screening postmenopausal women for ovarian cancer. Re-joined LSHTM in September 2008 to continue genetic studies of drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum as part of an EU-FP7 consortium grant, MALACTRES.
