Mr OmPrasad Gautam MPH, MA

Research Degree Student

A public health professional with more than ten years of work and research experiences in Child Health, Diseases Surveillance, Immunization and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) sector. Hold a Master's Degree in Public Health (MPH) from the JPGSPH, BRAC University, Bangladesh and Master’s Degree in Sociology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.  Through academic and professional engagement, gained intensive and in-depth practical and academic knowledge in various aspects of public health issues including diseases epidemiology, epidemiological research and methodology (both quantitative and qualitative) and tools. Applied different scientific research methodologies, study designs and tools in various professional research works. Interest and strength in research work had been demonstrated by receiving the "William B. Greenough III award for Best Dissertation 2007" during Master's Degree in Public Health (MPH) course on “Community knowledge and experiences about Malaria, its preventives measures and use of bed nets in Bangladesh". Conducted more than eight research projects as a principal investigator which are reflected in ’research’ section of this profile. During entire professional tenure, heavily engaged and took led to develop more than 20 health and WASH related manuals, guidelines, strategy documents and IEC materials. 

 

In past, worked in WaterAid Nepal as a Social Development Adviser (a member of the Senior Management Team) and performed as a focal point for health, hygiene, equity & inclusion and HR aspects thereby supported marginalized and vulnerable communities to claim their rights to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation facilities. Before WaterAid in Nepal, worked for the World Health Organization, Programme for Immunization Preventable Diseases (WHO/IPD). During professional tenure at WHO/IPD, gained much practical experiences working on child health, immunization programmes, diseases surveillance, and strengthening micro-planning activities for health system improvements in Nepal. In the mean time, worked as a coordinator for Association of International NGOs (AIN), Health Working Group and supported to establish functional and strategic relationship between Health INGOs and Health sector in Nepal.
