Agnes Dzokoto

Dr. Agnes Dzokoto is a Medical Doctor and a Public Health Specialist. She has more than 13 years of experience working in the STI/HIV/AIDS  and reproductive health programs in Africa with considerable experience in designing, managing, training and evaluating health programs including STI/HIV/AIDS programs.

Dr. Agnes Dzokoto is  undertaking her PhD in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom. Her research topic is "Comparing antenatal screening strategies to prevent congenital syphilis in Ghana".

She has taken the following modules: 1. Design and Analysis of Epidemiological studies, 2. Epidemiology Communicable Diseases, 3. Modelling of Infectious diseases, 4. Data Management (using Epi-data and STATA,) 5. Economic Evaluation.

Dr. Agnes Wilhelmina Dzokoto is also provides consultancy services to a number of international institutions. In the past years, she has provided consultancy services for various organizations including Family Health International, the Ghana AIDS Commission, the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), UNAIDS and Price Waterhouse Coopers Ghana. The consultancies included providing technical assistance to countries (Cameroon and Sierra Leone), preparation and finalisation of technical reports, conducting national reviews and preparation of the National Universal Access and UNGASS Reports or Ghana. In addition, Dr Dzokoto has been part of a team conducting programmatic,  monitoring and evaluation  capacity assessments  as well as monitoring implementation of Global fund grants in a number of countries

Dr Agnes Wilhelmina Dzokoto was the Senior Technical Officer (STO) of the AWARE HIV/AIDS project in Accra, Ghana and serving West & Central Africa countries (18 countries) covered by the AWARE project. Her main responsibilities in the AWARE program include providing technical assistance in the design, implementation and evaluation of HIV/AIDS prevention and care activities in the context of the USAID/WARP Action for West African Region Project AWARE- HIV/AIDS She provides technical assistance to countries in the setting up of systems, planning, programming and implementation of programs in the area of HIV/AIDS and STI including Management of Opportunistic Infections, Antiretroviral therapy services, Management of sexually transmitted infections, PMTCT, VCT and OVC. She has provided technical assistance to the NACP’s of Sierra Leone, Liberia, The Gambia and to partners in Senegal and Cameroon for setting up programmes in PMTCT, ART and STI for the replication of best practices. She is the Technical Monitor to a number of projects.

Previously Agnes worked with Ghana’s National AIDS/ STI Control Program (NACP) where she was the National STI Focal Person and deputized for the Program Manager. Here she was responsible for coordinating activities for Sexually Transmitted Infections for the NACP including training, surveillance, review of guidelines, monitoring, supervision and research and was the leader in the team for the development of guidelines in STI. She also supported the development of guidelines in VCT, PMTCT, Management of Opportunistic Infections, and Antiretroviral therapy and was actively involved in building the capacity of health workers in area of care and treatment. She was also involved in planning designing, managing programmes supported by bilateral and multilateral donors such as Global Fund for AIDS TB and Malaria, DfID and the World Bank etc) in all areas of prevention and care, treatment and support for the NACP in Ghana.

Agnes has worked at the different levels of the Ghana Health Service. At the district level she gained a wealth of experience working at the community level in a high prevalence area (Agomanya in the Eastern Region of Ghana). As the Regional HIV/AIDS/STI/Coordinator and the Senior Medical Officer (Public Health) in the Ministry of Health, Greater Accra Region in Ghana she acted as Team Leader and Coordinator of all Public Health activities.

Agnes has also participated in the writing of numerous articles and produces many publications related to STI –HIV/AIDS.

In addition to her medical degree, (MBChB) Agnes holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine and Venereology from the University of Liverpool and a Master of Public Health from the University of Ghana, School of Public Health.
