Laura Conejero PhD

Research Fellow

I obtained my PhD in immunology in Madrid (Complutense University, Spain) in October 2006, studying the role of immunostimulatory sequences of DNA (ISS) in a murine model of allergic bronchial asthma to olive pollen proteins. In February 2008, I moved to LSHTM and joined Greg Bancroft's group.

Teaching

My main teaching role at LSHTM is tutoring on the distance learning MSc course in Infectious Diseases, Biology of Infectious Diseases module.

Research

I am currently working in two projects that involve the pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei, a Gram negative bacterium that is the causative agent of melioidosis: 1)Evaluate B. pseudomallei antigens as candidates to be used in a subunit or DNA vaccine that provides protection against this pathogen. 2) Study the pathology associated with chronic melioidosis focusing on granuloma formation.
