Patricia Aiyenuro BSc MSc PhD

Research Assistant

First employed at LSHTM in 1988, as a MLSO1 working on Leishmaniasis and rearing sand flies, in the former Medical Parasitology department. After this, went on to spend three years working as a scientific officer at the Natural History Museum, working on sand flies with Dr Richard Lane, completing an MSc in Medical Parasitology. Returned to LSHTM in 1997 and currently working in DCVB unit, on mosquitoes and malaria, as the Senior Insectary manager/ medical entomologist. In January 2000 completed an MSc in Health Promotion at SouthBankUniversity.  PhD research  at LSHTM working on the Public Perceptions of Head Lice in Schools in the UK. Dr Val Curtis is supervising this project, with Dr Nigel Hill and Dr Mary Cameron on the research advisory panel.

Teaching

Involved in various aspects of teaching entomology on the Msc in Disease Control and vector biology course, the DTMH course and other short courses ran throughout the year. Also assists in practical demonstrations with special emphasis on mosquito and sandfly identification, dissection of mosquitoes and sand flies and mosquito crossing experiments.

Research

At present involved in project looking at the public perception of head lice in the UK which involves looking at people's attitudes and the stigma associated with the spread of head lice.
