Volunteering and LSHTM
For LSHTM staff and students: in-house volunteering
At the moment, the main volunteering activities conducted within LSHTM revolve around our award-winning young scientists programme. This offers work experience to school students across London plus occasional workshops with schools. All LSHTM staff and students are welcome to contribute to this in mentoring or supervising projects - see the links at the side to find out more about the programme, to find out when the next sessions are or to see what sorts of projects students do. You can also email Anna Goodman on volunteering@lshtm.ac.uk.
For LSHTM staff and students: volunteering outside LSHTM
Many staff and students from LSHTM also take part in many different volunteering activities including talks in schools, advising NGOs, giving time to charities and many other types of volunteer work - see our links page for some details and for ideas of how to get involved yourself.
For young people wanting to do work experience at LSHTM
In general, we only take students in groups during fixed sessions which we arrange via schools. You can look at our news page to see when our next sessions are; if they match with the weeks you have for work experience then we may be able to fit you in. LSHTM does occasionally take individuals or pairs of students at other times, usually if they have a connection within the school and are able to find a staff member willing to supervise them. If you don't fall into either of these categories, you are welcome to email Anna Goodman at volunteering@lshtm.ac.uk, but unfortunately we can't promise anything...
For LSHTM alumni: getting involved in LSHTM
LSHTM alumni are welcome to apply to part in our young scientists programme. The LSHTM Alumni Office is also in the process of compiling an Alumni Volunteer Database, which will enable alumni to sign up to become official volunteers. If you sign up as a volunteer, the Alumni Office will contact you about relevant opportunities in your area. Volunteers can become involved in various activities on behalf of the Alumni, Careers & Development Offices and Student Recruitment - for more information see the Alumni Office volunteering website.
For other individuals wanting to do work experience/volunteer at LSHTM
If you would like to come and do unpaid work at LSHTM for anything other than the young scientists programme described above, then I'm afraid we can't help you. Instead please browse LSHTM's department, research and course pages and email research staff with relevant interests directly, and ask them if they have any opportunities.
For organisations wanting to recruit LSHTM staff and students at LSHTM
If you have opportunities which may be of general interest to LSHTM staff and students, we will be happy to consider listing these on our links page and/or putting a notice on LSHTM's electronic noticeboard. To discuss this, please email Anna Goodman at volunteering@lshtm.ac.uk
If you wish to recruit LSHTM staff/students with expertise in a particular area, please browse LSHTM's department, research and course pages and contact individuals with relevant experience directly. Note also that the contribution of our volunteers should be in addition to the services provided by your organisation; they should not provide the core services usually run by paid staff.
