Director & Professor of Global Health
The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He sits, ex-officio, on the School’s Council. The Director is appointed by the School’s Council.
Professor Baron Peter Piot became Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in September 2010. He trained as a clinician and microbiologist, was part of the international team that discovered Ebola virus in Zaire in 1976, subsequently leading research on AIDS, women’s health, and public health in Africa. He was the founding Executive Director of UNAIDS and Under Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1995 until 2008, and a professor of microbiology and global health at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, the University of Nairobi and Imperial College London. He was a Senior Fellow at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Vice Director & Professor of Health Economics and Policy
The Vice Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is responsible for Academic Affairs, supporting academic leadership and vision in research, education and knowledge translation across the School. She reports to and advises the Director, deputising for him as required.
Professor Anne Mills was appointed Vice Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in September 2011. She is an internationally renowned health economist, who has made major contributions to knowledge on the financing and organisation of health systems in low- and middle-income countries and the economics of malaria. She has trained generations of masters and research degree students, contributing to strengthened research and policy analysis capacities in many countries.

Professor Hazel Dockrell BA PhD
Special Advisor on Overseas Programmes & Professor of Immunology
The Special Advisor on Overseas Programmes advises the Director on issues relating to London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine’s many research programmes based in low- and middle-income countries.
Professor Hazel Dockrell was appointed Special Advisor on Overseas Programmes in September 2011, having been previously been the School’s Deputy Director (Research) from 2008. She has an international reputation for her research on biomarkers and T cell immunity in mycobacterial diseases. She has helped strengthen research capacity in many continents and countries, through the development of cellular immunology laboratories, training many PhD students, and her involvement with research and capacity strengthening consortia.

Chief Operating Officer
The Chief Operating Officer manages the Estates, Health and Safety, Human Resources, IT, Library and Archives, Procurement and Registry services.
Andrew Young was appointed Chief Operating Officer in December 2012. He has a background in HE management, having had significant experience of leading a Faculty support team and having overall responsibility for the implementation of Faculty and University strategy and services delivered to around 900 academic and support staff and 6,000 students at Newcastle University.

Jens Hinricher LLM FRSPH
The Legal Advisor provides legal advice and assistance to the School in a broad range of disciplines, assists in managing legal risk across a diverse and ever-changing remit and contributes to policy development to support legal compliance and corporate governance.
Jens Hinricher was appointed the School's first ever in-house Legal Advisor in January 2013. Prior to joining the School, he inter alia held appointments as the General Counsel of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) in Dhaka, Bangladesh and with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lusaka, Zambia. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH).
Executive Officer & Head of Director's Office
The Executive Officer provides executive support to the Director across a wide range of activities and in the development of new strategies and projects.
Frances Fowler was appointed Executive Officer in June 2012, having worked at the University of Edinburgh, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Wellcome Trust, the Scottish Arts Council and Historic Scotland.

Personal Assistant to the Director provides day-to-day support to the Director, managing and organising the Director’s budget, his diary, travel and other arrangements.
Donna Bowers was appointed Personal Assistant to the Director in June 2011, having worked in the Director’s Office since 2001.
