Governance
The governing body of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical (LSHTM) is the Council which has overall responsibility for the operational and strategic management of the School.
Council members fulfil their roles in accordance with the constitutional document of this Higher Education Institution (HEI), its Royal Charter, and subject to regulations for the operation of an HEI as determined by government and other external agencies.
The School is defined under the Charities Act as an exempt Charity and is registered accordingly with HMRC (see Financial Statements for further details). Under the Charities Act 2011, the principal regulator for universities is the HEFCE, which is responsible for ensuring that Universities fulfil their obligations under Charity Law.
